Samoa weightlifter Anoni Faumui has made a strong Commonwealth Games debut, finishing eighth in the women’s 58kg final in Glasgow.
The 19-year-old lifted a combined total of 177kg, recording 82kg in the snatch and 95kg in the clean and jerk to secure a top-10 finish against some of the Commonwealth’s best lifters.
Faumui entered the Games with international experience, including a strong performance at the IBFC Universal Weightlifting Cup in Samoa in April. Competing in the senior women’s 63kg division, she claimed two bronze medals after recording a 186kg total.
She also competed at the 2025 Oceania Junior and Youth Championships in the junior women’s 58kg division, where she finished third with a 168kg total.
At the 2025 Oceania Senior Championships and the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, she finished third in both competitions in the women’s 58kg division, recording a 169kg total.
