Eighteen-year-old Seine Stowers, of Fa‘ala Palauli and Sasa‘ai, Savai‘i, secured Samoa’s first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after winning the women’s 77-kilogram weightlifting event.

Stowers topped the snatch standings with a lift of 107kg, finishing five kilograms ahead of Canada’s Rosalie Dumas, who lifted 102kg. New Zealand’s Georgia Theron placed third with 100kg.

In the clean and jerk, Stowers successfully lifted 125kg on her first attempt before completing 130kg on her second. Her final attempt at 133kg, which would have set a Commonwealth Games record, was ruled a no-lift by the jury.
