Eight years after winning Samoa's first Commonwealth Games gold medal on Australia's Gold Coast, Sanele Mao is ready to chase another podium finish at the 2026 Games in Glasgow.

The 40-year-old will compete in the men's over-110kg division, with weightlifting taking place at the Scottish Event Campus Armadillo from July 26 to 30.

Mao has already represented Samoa as one of the nation's flag bearers during the Opening Ceremony and is now focused on competition.

"I'm feeling good and I'm ready for the Commonwealth Games competition," Mao told Commonwealth Games organisers.

"The team is really strong and I'm ready to compete. I will try my best in this big competition. I'm so happy, and I'm going to try my best."
