Pieter Coetzé will be among South Africa's leading medal contenders at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow that kick off on Thursday.
As Team South Africa prepares to return to Glasgow for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, starting on Thursday, memories of the country's memorable 2014 campaign remain fresh.
It was in the Scottish city 12-years ago that Team SA collected 40 medals, including 13 gold, equalling their best performance since rejoining the Commonwealth in 1994. While this year's scaled-back Games feature just 10 sports, South Africa has assembled a balanced 112-athlete squad capable of making another significant impact.
Much of that optimism centres on the swimming pool.
Leading the charge is world champion Pieter Coetzé, who has emerged as one of the finest backstrokers in the world.
