The Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ABTTA) has backed Sofia’s bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, saying the capital has the necessary conditions to organize one of Europe’s biggest music events.
In an official statement, the organization highlighted Sofia’s international transport links, modern infrastructure, extensive hotel capacity and experience in hosting major international events as key advantages in the race to become the host city.
According to ABTTA, bringing Eurovision to Sofia would have a strong economic and promotional impact for Bulgaria by boosting incoming tourism, raising the country’s profile abroad and creating long-term opportunities for cultural, urban and event tourism.
The association also acknowledged the potential of other Bulgarian cities, including Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas, describing them as destinations with rich history, cultural heritage and developing infrastructure. However, ABTTA said Sofia is currently the city best prepared to host the competition.
Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev welcomed the support, saying the city’s candidacy represents an opportunity to present Bulgaria to millions of viewers worldwide and strengthen the country’s tourism sector.
