Advocate Andrea Johnson of IDAC faces scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission for her remarks on Dineo Mokwele's appointment as a brigadier amid allegations of manipulation in the hiring process.
Head of the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), Advocate Andrea Johnson, on Thursday apologised to a civilian, Dineo Mokwele, for referring to her appointment as a brigadier in the Crime Intelligence Unit as "a token appointment".
Mokwele's appointment took centre stage during Johnson's testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry amid allegations that Crime Intelligence chief Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and other senior officers allegedly manipulated HR processes to hire Mokwele, a former BMW employee.
The commission questioned Johnson on her decision to institute an investigation against Khumalo and his co-accused, and their subsequent arrest in June last year. Their cases are currently before the courts.
The arrests followed the submission of an affidavit by MP Fadiel Adams to IDAC in terms of Section 27 of the National Prosecuting Authority Act 32 of 1998.
