It warned that the rising cost of nursing education was placing severe financial pressure on families, many of whom survive on modest incomes.
The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has accused the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences of commercialising nursing education through what it described as repeated increases in fees.
It called on the state government to urgently review the institution's charges and make nursing training more affordable.
The group alleged that final-year students of the college had been directed to pay about ₦200,000 for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) qualifying examinations, despite claims that the actual examination fee charged by the regulatory council is significantly lower.
In a statement issued on Saturday, signed by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the ENF described the continued increase in fees as insensitive at a time many Nigerian families are struggling with worsening economic hardship.
