ENF described the compulsory levies as unacceptable, arguing that workers should never be forced to finance a social event organised by their employer.
The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has accused the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, of compelling nurses, intern nurses, health attendants and other categories of workers to make mandatory financial contributions towards the hospital's planned 2026 end-of-year celebration.
The forum also alleged widespread intimidation, victimisation, suppression of union participation and abuse of authority within the institution.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the forum called on the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Governing Board of FMC Abeokuta and other relevant oversight agencies to launch an immediate investigation into what it described as "systemic abuse of workers' rights" at the federal health institution.
According to the organisation, the proposed end-of-year activities are scheduled to hold between December 15 and December 20, 2026, with workers allegedly directed to pay varying amounts based on their professional ranks before the end of September.
