Beyond the alleged salary arrears, the Forum claimed that the affected nurses had also not received the uniform allowance routinely paid to nurses in many other federal health institutions.
The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has expressed concerns over worsening welfare and safety conditions at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, alleging that newly employed nurses are being owed two months' salaries.
This is also as healthcare workers are reportedly forced to ask patients to provide examination gloves before carrying out medical procedures because of shortages of essential protective equipment.
In a press statement signed by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the Forum painted a troubling picture of conditions at the federal health institution, stating poor staff welfare, inadequate infection prevention measures, deteriorating sanitary facilities, and shortages of critical medical supplies that could endanger both healthcare workers and patients.
According to the Forum, several nurses employed this year complained that they have not been paid salaries for two months, although the reason for the delay has yet to be officially explained by the hospital management.
