The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has condemned the alleged invasion of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, describing the operation as a “national disgrace” and an attack on Nigeria’s healthcare system.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the group accused operatives of the anti-graft agency of brutalising health workers, assaulting medical personnel and disrupting activities within the hospital during the operation.

The forum specifically alleged that Professor Eyo Ekpe and other staff members of the teaching hospital were harassed and arrested during the incident.

According to the nurses’ group, the deployment of tear gas inside a hospital environment was “reckless, dangerous, inhumane, and unacceptable,” warning that the action endangered patients and healthcare workers within the facility.
