According to the forum, the nurses on duty had already attended to patients within the scope of their responsibilities and were waiting for the doctor on call to continue consultations when the incident occurred.
The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has condemned the alleged assault of a Chief Nursing Officer at the State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, Oyo State, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the patient’s relative accused of attacking the nurse.
The group described the incident as “shameful, barbaric and inhumane,” saying a viral video of the attack showed the nurse being physically assaulted, humiliated and dehumanised while the alleged attacker recorded the incident.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the forum said the assault had sparked outrage among nurses and other Nigerians, warning that attacks on healthcare workers must not be normalised.
