A fire broke out shortly after noon on Saturday in a forested area in the region on Kissamos, in western Crete.
Authorities issued an emergency alert for residents in the wider area of Aerinos, urging them to remain vigilant for further instructions.
A large contingent made of 45 firefighters with 15 water canons, units on foot and two helicopters have been deployed in the area.
The wider area is included in a map issued by the Civil Protection indicating a high risk of fire (category 3) for Saturday.
