Police have dismantled a criminal organization allegedly involved in cultivating a large cannabis plantation in a forested area of central Greece, seizing more than 4,600 cannabis plants, authorities said.
Three men, aged 50, 33 and 38, were arrested in connection with the case. Police estimated that the group’s expected proceeds from the sale of the plants would have exceeded 9 million euros.
The operation was conducted in a forested area on Mount Kallidromo, in the regional unit of Fthiotida, following an investigation by the Kalamata narcotics enforcement department. Officers were assisted by members of the Greek police counter-terrorism unit during the raid.
Authorities said they discovered a specially constructed cultivation site hidden in dense vegetation. The plantation covered approximately 25 acres and consisted of 4,670 cannabis plants grown in terraced plots.
Investigators also found three makeshift drying facilities used for processing and storing cannabis, tents and other equipment allegedly used by the suspects for living on site, a homemade water reservoir for irrigating the plantation, a solar panel used to supply electricity, and 412 grams of processed cannabis.
