Nine people have been arrested in the southern Peloponnese region accused of involvement in a major marijuana-growing enterprise involving thousands of cannabis plants, authorities said Thursday.
A police statement said Wednesday’s crackdown followed cooperation with Albanian authorities, and focused on a farm in the area of Corinth. Among the detained suspects were the two suspected leaders of the enterprise, as well as a local landowner who had agreed to have his property used for cannabis-growing in greenhouses.
Another two people were arrested suspected of offences involving firearms and illegal immigration that were not directly connected to the drug farm.
Officers who raided the farm seized a total 6,620 cannabis saplings up to 1.3 meters high, less than a kilogram of marijuana, cannabis seeds and about €4,000 in cash.
