Police in the western Peloponnese said Friday they have broken a marijuana-growing ring that set up a farm using mail-order seeds and stood to harvest more than a quarter of a million euros-worth of the drug.
A police statement said four people were arrested and face charges of belonging to a criminal organization, growing and trafficking drugs. Officers who raided the farm north of Pyrgos found and destroyed 78 cannabis saplings.
Searches of homes and other locations near the port of Kyllini led to the confiscation of more than seven kilograms of marijuana. Police said the drug crop harvested from the farm would have been worth about €275,000.
Police in several parts of Greece have found and destroyed thousands of cannabis saplings in recent weeks, mostly planted in remote mountainous areas.
