An illegal cannabis plantation that could have yielded marijuana with a street value of some €164,000 has been located and destroyed in a remote, mountainous area of central Greece, authorities said Wednesday.
A police statement said the farm covered an area of some 2,000 square meters and contained 174 saplings up to 1.5 meters in height. It was located Tuesday in the vicinity of Kaloskopi, a village at an altitude of 1,100 meters on Mount Giona.
Officers found and seized automatic watering systems, agricultural tools and fertiliser, but were unable to locate anyone associated with the farm. Efforts are under way to identify and arrest the cannabis growers.
The plants were destroyed.
