Two teenagers have been arrested on the Athens subway network for allegedly preying on women passengers and violently stealing their jewellery, police said Thursday.
A police statement said officers from a special squad patrolling the Piraeus-to-Kifissia electric railway stopped the two – identified as foreign nationals aged 17 and 18 – for a spot check on Monday at the Kifissia station.
It said the one youth was found to be carrying what it described as a knuckle-duster that could deliver an electric shock.
Both were taken in for questioning, during which it transpired, the statement said, that the youths had violently attacked at least three women at network stations and snatched their necklaces.
