Greece will be affected by warmer air masses on Tuesday, with temperatures gradually rising, but no heatwave is expected like the one recorded in western Europe, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).

Temperatures will reach 37 to 38 degrees Celsius in most of the mainland, and may climb to 39 degrees locally in the plains of Central Macedonia and in the western part of the country. In Attica, EMY forecasts 37 degrees Celsius, which is not classified as a heatwave for the time of year.

At the same time, the strong summer winds that prevailed in the last three days will weaken to 6 on the Beaufort scale. The weather will shift on Wednesday with showers forecast in the northern part of the country, and the Peloponnese.

On Monday, the highest temperatures were recorded in Orestiada (37.7 C) in the northeastern border region of Evros, followed by Olenia in Achaia, and Dion in Pieria with 37.4°C.
