Greece’s first heat wave of the season is expected to peak on Tuesday, with temperatures forecast to reach 42 degrees Celsius across much of the country and as high as 43C in parts of central Epirus.
The intense heat will be accompanied by light winds, elevated humidity and limited air circulation, making conditions feel even hotter, particularly in urban and coastal areas. Moderate concentrations of dust are also expected in western Greece.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 41C in parts of Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly, while central Greece is also expected to see highs of 40-41C. In western Greece, including Agrinio, temperatures could reach 42C, while much of the Peloponnese is expected to record around 38C.
In Attica, temperatures are forecast to reach 38C under clear skies, while Thessaloniki is expected to see highs of 41C.
The heat is expected to ease gradually from Wednesday in central and northern Greece before subsiding across the country on Thursday, when forecasters say temperatures will fall sharply and locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible.
