Greece’s ongoing heat wave is expected to peak Wednesday, with the National Meteorological Service issuing an emergency weather warning as temperatures soar across much of the country.
The highest temperatures are forecast in Thessaly, eastern Central Greece and the eastern Peloponnese, where highs of 41-42 degrees Celsius are expected, with isolated areas reaching 43 degrees.
In the Athens region, temperatures are forecast to climb to 40-41 degrees.
Meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas said the greatest heat stress will be felt in inland areas, where high temperatures and humidity will increase discomfort levels, particularly for people working outdoors.
He said conditions are expected to improve on Thursday, with temperatures and heat stress easing across much of Greece.
