Greece will remain in the grip of a heatwave Monday, with temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius in the mainland, even though clouds and potentially rain are forecast for some parts of the country.
The intense heat is expected to last until at least Thursday.
Much of Greece is on high alert for wildfires, including the Greater Athens region, Evia, Viotia and Fthiotida, Corinthia, Laconia and the Argolid in the eastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades and the eastern Aegean Sea islands of Lesvos, Samos, Chios and Ikaria.
Parts of northern Greece are forecast to see rain, or even storms, on Monday afternoon.
In the Greater Athens region the heat will reach a maximum 39 degrees, with the temperature about 2 degrees lower in seaside locations. Some clouds may appear from midday on.
