Summer weather tightened its grip on Bulgaria on Thursday, with temperatures climbing above 30°C in several parts of the country while cooler conditions persisted along the Black Sea coast and in the mountains.
Data from the National Institute of Meteorology recorded the highest temperatures in northwestern Bulgaria by mid-afternoon. Novo Selo topped the chart with 31°C, while Vidin, Lom, and Plovdiv reached around 30°C. Across much of the Danube Plain, the Upper Thracian Lowland, and southwestern regions, temperatures generally ranged between 27°C and 29°C.
The coast remained noticeably cooler. Thermometers showed 24°C in Varna, while Burgas and Ahtopol registered 23°C. Along the northern shoreline near Shabla and Kaliakra, temperatures hovered between 21°C and 22°C.
Conditions in the mountains were significantly different. Temperatures reached only 9°C on Cherni Vrah, 6°C on Botev Peak, and just 3°C on Musala, highlighting the contrast between lowland and high-altitude weather.
Forecasters said the warm pattern would continue through the evening, although some areas in Eastern Bulgaria and mountainous regions could see brief showers and thunderstorms. Elsewhere, skies are expected to remain mostly clear and sunny. Daytime highs across the country are forecast to stay between 26°C and 31°C, with Sofia reaching around 26°C.
