Chantel Pasqaulle-Hoorn
Emotional testimony from one of the last people to see Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn alive brought proceedings in the Western Cape High Court to a standstill on Tuesday, with family members breaking down in tears as chilling voice notes and allegations of desperate cries for help were recounted before the court.
The witness, who cannot be named and was identified only as the deceased's sister, became the State's first witness in the trial of Duncan Hoorn, who stands accused of kidnapping, murdering and assaulting his wife of 10 years.
Hoorn has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Taking the stand, the witness described a relationship marked by jealousy and control, telling the court that she and her sister spent most days together.
