Duncan Hoorn got emotional in court

Chilling voice notes, a botched police intervention, and a shocking alleged confession took centre stage in the Western Cape High Court as the brutal final hours of Hanover Park mother Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn were laid bare.

Her husband, Duncan Hoorn, has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, murder, and defeating the administration of justice following the alleged fatal assault of his wife of ten years. Pasqualle-Hoorn died in July 2024 after spending a month in a coma at Groote Schuur Hospital, following a confrontation linked to an extramarital affair.

As the trial entered its third day, State Advocate Renee Uys read into the record a harrowing statement from the deceased’s lover, who opted not to testify in person due to safety concerns. The witness recounted how the pair had been inside a Cape Town guesthouse room for a mere 10 minutes on 27 June 2024 when Pasqualle-Hoorn received a call, stepped outside, and returned to say her husband was waiting.

Fearing violence, the lover locked himself inside. He later called her phone to retrieve his belongings, overhearing Hoorn shouting and swearing before ordering her to drive away. It was the last time he ever heard her voice.
