Children arrive at school on first day of the new academic year after the summer vacation in Madurai on Thursday.

Children returned to schools in Madurai district on Thursday after summer vacation. They were welcomed by the school teachers with flowers, sweets and chocolates on the school premises.Special arrangements had been made by the teachers to welcome the newly enrolled children who joined Class I and kindergarten. School teachers welcomed the children with flowers. They distributed sweets and chocolates to the children, ensuring the children had a sweet and delightful start to their academic journey.Ahead of the school reopening, repair works had been carried out particularly in the classrooms across schools in the district. The classrooms were given a fresh coat of paint.Earlier, the authorities had inspected the school buses and school vans in the district for road worthiness. The vehicles were checked for all safety parameters. Over 1,000 school vehicles were inspected across the district during the exercise.The officials checked the safety amenities, seating arrangements, insurance, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, speed governors, CCTV cameras installed at the front and rear of the vehicle, emergency exits, the condition of the bus floor, space for keeping the school bags and other safety features.The crew members were sensitised to the importance of road safety. The officials asked the drivers to drive the vehicles by strictly following the safety instructions and the guidelines as they were responsible for the safety of the school children.Madurai City Police also issued a set of instructions to the school administration and parents for ensuring safety and security of the children.
