With schools in Tamil Nadu set to reopen on June 4, workers at Sivanthakulam Corporation Middle School are engaged in cleaning the classrooms on Tuesday ahead of welcoming students.

Schools have been prepared to receive the students as the students are returning to the schools on Thursday after the summer vacation.Led by Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar, officials attached to Department of Education are inspecting the schools to receive the students after the summer vacation. After the school premises are cleaned, disinfectant is sprayed in and outside the classrooms.As the textbooks and the uniforms have already been sent to the schools, steps have been taken to ensure the distribution of the same to the students on the first day of the re-opening.In Thoothukudi, the heads of 1,221 primary schools, 304 middle schools, 111 high schools and 218 higher secondary schools have been asked to clean their school premises and the overhead tanks supplying drinking water to the students. Sufficient water supply to the toilets should be ensured, it has been mandated.Mayor Jegan Periyasamy and Corporation Commissioner C. Priyanka visited a few schools under the administration of the urban civic body.Kanniyakumari District Collector M.
