Schools in central districts reopened after summer vacation on Thursday with children being given a warm welcome with flowers and sweets by teachers on the first day.Textbooks, notebooks, stationery, school bags, colour pencils, crayons, geometry box, geography maps, atlas, and uniforms were distributed to children in all government schools. Shoes and socks will be distributed within a week, said District Collector Pratik Tayal at the Corporation school at KK. Nagar.In Nagapattinam district, a total of 693 schools resumed classes, including 476 government and government-aided primary and middle schools, 116 government and government-aided high and higher secondary schools, and 101 private schools. Around 1.02 lakh children are expected to study in these institutions this academic year.Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar welcomed the children at Kadambadi Municipal School and said that 68,680 students studying in government and government-aided schools would receive various welfare items provided by the government on the first day of school. About 2,99,130 textbooks were distributed to students from Classes 1 to 12, and 4,38,193 notebooks to students from Classes 1 to 10. A total of 61,647 school bags will be distributed to children from Classes 1 to 12, while 18,015 pairs of footwear will be provided to children from Classes 1 to 5.In addition, 95,719 atlas and pairs of socks were distributed to children from Classes 6 to 10. Geography maps to 6,946 Class 6 children while 8,839 sets of crayons to children of Classes 1 and 2. Colour pencils to 12,662 children from Classes 3 to 5, and 15,888 mathematical instrument boxes to children of Classes 6 and 9.Pudukottai Collector M. Aruna distributed the notebooks and other necessary items at Ranees Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
