As schools are reopening on Thursday after the summer vacation, Madurai City Police have given a slew of instructions to the school administration and parents for ensuring safety and security of the children.A statement said that the buses operated by private schools should be ensured by the administration and parents that only permitted number of students are boarding inside.Similarly, private vehicles should avoid taking too many children in their vehicles to the school and back home.The drivers of school vehicles and other vehicles should not be drunk while driving.The parents should ensure that the children reach the school and return home on time.The statement added that parents who drop their children on two-wheelers should wear helmets and ride them at moderate speed and abide by traffic rules. No more than two children should be taken in the bikes.Parents should not allow children any two-wheelers others than bicycle.The schools should immediately alert the parents if their wards had absented from school on that day. This will help the parents to find out the reason for their children’s absentism.In case of children not returning home on time, the parents should verify with the school administration about the children’s exit from the school. After checking with the school, the parents should immediately alert the nearest police station about the missing children.The school administration should create awareness among the parents and children about the functioning of anti-drug clubs in the schools. They should be encouraged to alert the police about sale of any banned tobacco products or drugs in any of shops or by individuals, the statement said.The special helpline numbers of 1098, 181 for children should be made known to the children.Children who travel by TNSTC buses should avoid footboard travel and this should be ensured by the crew members.Parents should educate their children to avoid crowded buses and wait for the next bus. Similarly, the students should be asked not to board or get down from running buses or take up stunts while travelling.Two-wheeler and four-wheeler patrols would be taken up around schools and bus stops by the police to ensure safety and protection of the children and women.
