The Transport department on Saturday launched a two-day inspection of buses owned by all educational institutions to check roadworthiness of the vehicles before the reopening of schools and colleges after the summer break. Led by District Collector A. Kulothungan and Transport Commissioner Aman Sharma, officials of the department, including motor vehicle inspectors, conducted the inspection of vehicles at Mettupalayam. Mr. Sharma said the inspection was held to ascertain the fitness of the vehicles. The team would look for 14 parameters, including whether the vehicle has got the mandatory colour coding, details of the institutions imprinted, installed GPS, speed governors, fire extinguishers, provided horizontal railings for windows and emergency exits before certifying the roadworthiness of the vehicles.“Those vehicles lacking in any of the parameters would not qualify for certification. We will send them back and give another date for inspection,” Mr. Sharma told The Hindu. Published - May 30, 2026 08:17 pm IST
