A joint inspection of school vehicles was conducted on Saturday morning at the testing ground of the Meenambakkam Regional Transport Office (RTO) by a team headed by the Tambaram Revenue Divisional Officer.The inspection team comprised the Chengalpattu District Educational Officer, Regional Transport Officer, Meenambakkam, Assistant Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, Inspector of Police, St. Thomas Mount, and the Motor Vehicle Inspector, Meenambakkam.A total of 102 school buses is operating under the jurisdiction of the office. During the inspection, officials examined emergency exit doors, footsteps, vehicle height, reverse cameras, platform stability, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, speed governors, and GPS devices.Fitness certificates of 11 buses with deficiencies were cancelled, and conditional fitness certificates were issued. The vehicle operators were given seven days to rectify the defects and present the buses for re-inspection.As part of the programme, free eye check-ups were conducted for school bus drivers by Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital.
