Ahead of school reopening, Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan on Thursday inspected school buses and vans for road worthiness in Dindigul.The Collector conducted the inspection along with the committee comprising officials from Regional Transport Office, Police Department, and Fire and Rescue Services Department. The committee has been constituted to conduct the safety checks.The Collector said school buses and vans were inspected to ensure the safety of students. The vehicles would be checked for all safety parameters.As part of the first phase, inspections were carried out on 250 school vehicles. A total of 450 school vehicles operating in Dindigul district would be inspectedThe officials checked safety amenities, seating arrangements, insurance, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, speed governors, CCTV cameras installed at the front and rear of the vehicle, emergency exits, the condition of the bus floor, space for keeping school bags and other safety features.Drivers were instructed to drive the vehicles at a moderate speed, considering the safety of the school students.
