TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Crimes Court at the Central Jakarta District Court has sentenced Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, also known as Noel, to four years and six months in prison. The judges declared the former Deputy Minister of Manpower guilty of corruption involving gratuities and extortion in the process of obtaining occupational safety and health (K3) certification."He is hereby sentenced to four years and six months in prison, along with a fine of Rp200 million," said Chief Judge Nur Sari Baktiana while reading the verdict on Thursday.The judge also imposed a fine of Rp200 million and additional punishment in the form of repaying Rp3.435 billion. If Noel does not have sufficient assets to pay the compensation, the obligation will be replaced with a one-year prison sentence.The sentence for the man known as Noel is lower than the prosecutor's demand. In this case, Noel was accused of demanding a share of Rp3.3 billion and a Ducati motorcycle in exchange for expediting the K3 certification process during his term as Deputy Minister of Manpower from 2024 to 2025.According to Tempo, the prosecutor from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) mentioned in the indictment read on January 19, 2026, that Noel summoned Hery Sutanto to his office after being appointed as Deputy Minister at the end of 2024. The meeting discussed the deputy minister's share in the practice of extorting money from the private sector.Furthermore, during the hearing on May 7, 2026, Noel admitted to receiving gratuities amounting to Rp3.36 billion and a Ducati motorcycle. For this, he was sentenced to a five-year prison sentence, a fine of Rp250 million with a substitute of 90 days in prison, and compensation of Rp4.43 billion with a substitute of two years in prison by the prosecutor.During the sentencing hearing for the corruption case involving gratuities and extortion in the process of obtaining a K3 certification, Noel accepted the panel of judges' verdict.
