The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned what it described as a violent attack on members of the Take It Back Movement and other peaceful protesters in Ibadan, Oyo State, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The protesters were demonstrating over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of the country when armed individuals allegedly attacked them, leaving several injured and others dispossessed of personal belongings.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, the AAC said the demonstrators were “exercising their constitutional right to demand urgent action for the rescue and release of kidnapped children and teachers.”
The party alleged that the attackers were political thugs transported in multiple buses and that they opened fire on and physically assaulted protesters in broad daylight.
