LUCENA CITY — Despite the onset of the rainy season, the local government of Cuenca town in Batangas has advised residents to take precautionary measures as the heat index in the area may reach a dangerous 48 degrees Celsius on Monday, June 1.

“The heat index in our town today may reach the ‘danger’ level. Due to the combination of heat and humidity, the temperature felt by the body is higher than the actual air temperature,” the town’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said in a Filipino-language public advisory posted on its Facebook page at 11:30 a.m.

The DRRMO also released an information card indicating a forecast heat index of 48°C, based on data from the local government’s emergency operations center and weather monitoring system.
