LUCENA CITY — Parts of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal Quezon) region continued to experience dangerous indices over the weekend, with Cavite City hitting 48°C heat index on Saturday, despite forecasts that the rainy season may begin soon.
Data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that Sangley Point in Cavite City registered a 48°C heat index, surpassing the earlier forecast of 44°C.
The city also logged a 48°C heat index on May 21, exceeding Pagasa’s projected 46°C for that day.
In Rizal province, the municipality of Taytay recorded a heat index of 49.15°C shortly after noon on May 22, based on monitoring data from the Taytay Command Center–Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
