Every week The Slovak Spectator brings you a selection of three short stories from across Slovakia from which pessimism and negativity are absent.
Residents of the Nad jazerom district of Košice woke to an unexpected sight on Thursday morning when a lone cow started wandering between their apartment blocks and along the lake promenade. One local said he had gone out with his morning tea when he suddenly spotted the animal strolling nearby. "For a few seconds, I honestly thought I was hallucinating," he joked online.
Within minutes, the runaway cow became the biggest celebrity in the neighbourhood. Social media exploded with jokes about a "mobile dairy shop" and "the freshest milk in Košice". Some residents even suggested replacing the area’s traditional swan symbol with a cow. But while many found the situation hilarious, others pointed out that the animal was likely frightened and disoriented. Police officers and agricultural workers eventually managed to catch the cow safely after it wandered through several streets, including near a local kindergarten.
