Every week The Slovak Spectator brings you a selection of three short stories from across Slovakia from which pessimism and negativity are absent.

The public library in Dolný Kubín, northern Slovakia, recently received an extraordinary gift: the Japanese Embassy in Slovakia presented it with 108 books offering readers a deeper look into Japanese culture, art, society and politics. The donation is part of the global READ JAPAN initiative, which aims to make high-quality literature about Japan accessible to readers around the world.

The books were personally delivered by Japanese Embassy representative Yasushi Nakagawa, whose visit turned into more than a formal ceremony. As well as touring the library, he also joined the popular KUK (Books – Art – Culture) Festival in the town, thus connecting with the local cultural scene. For curious readers, students, and anyone fascinated by Japan, the new collection opens a window into a country that continues to captivate people across the globe.
