Africa Day commemorates the historic meeting held on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa, where 32 independent African states established the Organisation of African Unity – the predecessor of today’s African Union.

This milestone marked a decisive moment in the continent’s struggle for liberation, dignity, and unity.

Africa’s history is one of resilience and courage. Despite centuries of colonial exploitation, the slave trade, and immense human suffering, the peoples of Africa preserved their identity, cultural richness, and unwavering aspiration for freedom and justice.
