A man with a history of domestic violence has been arrested in southern Greece on suspicion of locking up and threatening a teenage girl, authorities said Sunday.

A police statement said the suspect illegally detained the 16-year-old – whom it described as his “partner” – in his home in the port city of Patra and prevented her from leaving, while verbally abusing her. Police freed the teenager Saturday after being alerted by her relatives.

The suspect faces charges of domestic violence and drugs possession, as police found a small quantity of cannabis on the premises.

Police said the man had been arrested in 2024 for physically and verbally abusing and threatening another woman.
