At least 56 areas in the country are expected to experience “danger” level heat index on Friday, May 22, the state weather bureau PAGASA said. Based on PAGASA’s five-day heat index forecast, the following areas may record heat index levels ranging from 42°C to 45°C:45°CDagupan City, Pangasinan Aparri, Cagayan Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Baler (Radar), Aurora San Ildefonso, Bulacan Sangley Point, Cavite City Alabat, Quezon 44°CNAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila Casiguran, Aurora CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City TAU Camiling, Tarlac Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas Infanta, Quezon San Jose, Occidental Mindoro Dumangas, Iloilo Siquijor, Siquijor Catarman, Northern Samar Guiuan, Eastern Samar Maasin, Southern Leyte 43°CLaoag City, Ilocos Norte MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte DMMMSU Bacnotan, La Union ISU Echague, Isabela Iba, Zambales Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga Tayabas City, Quezon Puerto Princesa City, Palawan Cuyo, Palawan Daet, Camarines Norte Virac (Synop), Catanduanes Juban, Sorsogon Roxas City, Capiz Mambusao, Capiz Iloilo City, Iloilo Catarman, Northern Samar Borongan, Eastern Samar Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte Surigao City, Surgao del Norte Butuan City, Agusan del Norte 42°CScience Garden Quezon City, Metro Manila Sinait, Ilocos Sur Calayan, Cagayan Basco (Radar), Batanes NVSU Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac City Calapan, Oriental Mindoro Coron, Palawan Aborlan, Palawan Legazpi City, Albay Masbate City, Masbate CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental Tacloban City, Leyte VSU-Baybay, Leyte Hinatuan, Surigao del SurMeanwhile, there are 19 areas expected to experience “extreme caution” heat index levels ranging from 35°C to 41°C.Baguio City, Benguet is the only area forecast to experience “caution” heat index level at 28°C.The following areas are expected to record “not hazardous” heat index levels, or below 27°C:BSU, La Trinidad, Benguet - 26°C Benguet Radar, Tuba, Benguet – 21°CThe heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is combined with actual air temperature. High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, making it more difficult for the body to cool down.PAGASA advised the public to limit their time outside, and use umbrellas or caps when outdoors.
