On Thursday, May 21, weather conditions across Bulgaria are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with instability increasing after midday as cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds develop. Meteorologists warn of short-term showers and thunderstorms, particularly in Eastern Bulgaria and mountainous areas. A yellow warning code has been issued for five regions along the Black Sea coast and in the eastern part of the country due to expected storm activity.
Winds will be moderate to strong from the northwest across much of the country, including the Danube Plain, the Upper Thracian Plain, and along the Struma Valley, where gusts may temporarily intensify. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 22°C and 27°C, with Sofia reaching around 22°C.
In mountainous regions, cloud cover will be more persistent, with widespread afternoon development of rain-bearing storm clouds. Thunderstorms and brief but intense rainfall are expected in many locations, accompanied by strong north-northwesterly winds. Temperatures will remain cooler at higher elevations, reaching about 14°C at 1,200 meters and around 7°C at 2,000 meters.
Along the Black Sea coast, skies will stay largely overcast, with frequent short-lived precipitation and thunderstorms in several areas. Winds will be moderate to strong from the northwest. Sea temperatures are expected to remain between 15°C and 17°C, while wave heights will reach around level 2 on the Beaufort scale. Coastal maximum temperatures will vary between 19°C and 24°C.
