The Supreme Court prosecutor has ordered an investigation into media coverage surrounding the deaths of two 17-year-old girls who fell from an apartment building in southern Athens.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said that electronic and print media had been “literally flooded” with the publication of alleged suicide notes attributed to the minors, as well as the circulation of video footage from the scene of the incident.

Authorities said the material is considered “unacceptable in every respect,” particularly as it may reveal the identities of the victims and their relatives.

The directive instructs the Athens prosecutor’s office to examine whether any offences have been committed in relation to the publication of the content.

Prosecutors stressed the urgency of the investigation, warning of the potential impact of uncontrolled disclosure of sensitive material in the public sphere, including possible psychological harm or copycat behavior among vulnerable individuals.
