Seven individuals suspected of involvement in a fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old in Athens late Wednesday were brought before a court on Friday morning.
According to investigators, a group of teenagers armed with knives clashed at Kallithea’s Agia Eleousa square around midnight on Wednesday in what authorities describe as a confrontation linked to soccer rivalry. The victim was stabbed in the heart during the altercation and later died in hospital.
The suspects face charges including murder with intent, participation in a violent brawl involving weapons resulting in death and serious injury, complicity in serious bodily harm, and illegal possession and use of weapons.
Investigators said the confrontation involved around 17 teenagers, all local residents, with no unified fan affiliation. The violence reportedly escalated after a prior unreported assault involving a 16-year-old suspect and a rival supporter earlier in the week.
On Wednesday night, rival fans allegedly tracked the 16-year-old to the square, where a group confrontation ensued. A 17-year-old is accused of delivering the fatal blow during the clash and has reportedly confessed, claiming self-defense.
