An Athens court on Friday unanimously sentenced the main defendant to life in prison for the fatal shooting of Marios Souloukos in 2017, when a stray bullet struck the 11 year old during a school celebration in the Athens suburb of Menidi.
In a unanimous decision, the court found him guilty of intentional homicide and imposed the maximum sentence without mitigating circumstances.
Prosecutor Antonios Kasapis described the act as highly reprehensible and said life imprisonment was the only appropriate punishment, arguing it harmed both the victim and society.
A second defendant was unanimously acquitted of attempted homicide, in line with the prosecution’s recommendation.
