Participants in the second course in Al-Fanar Media’s Gen-Z Project for journalist-influencers have been hearing media specialists’ tips on how to combine storytelling ability with the accuracy of professional journalism.
Al-Fanar Media launched the Gen Z Project this year to help train a new generation of journo-influencers capable of producing accurate and engaging content that reflects young people’s concerns and promotes responsible dialogue in the digital space.
The training highlights that young people, as the most active users of digital platforms, are both those most vulnerable to the dangers of misinformation and those most capable of countering it.
Thirty young people from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, and Yemen were selected to participate in the course, out of hundreds who applied. The participants are all Arab university students or recent graduates in journalism and digital content creation.
Young audiences tend to follow individuals rather than institutions, and they prefer short, visually engaging content designed for mobile devices, Mohammad El-Hawary, executive director and editor-in-chief of Al-Fanar Media, told the trainees in one of two sessions he presented.
