Behind every campaign slogan, political rally, and party manifesto are fundamental human concerns: Will my family be safe tonight? Will the power stay on? Can I afford next week’s groceries, and will my children have a future here?
When citizens enter the voting booth, they are doing more than choosing a candidate on a poster; they are passing judgment on their everyday realities.
Thobeka Mnguni, a 21-year-old University student, said: “I am not voting for a party name or a history lesson. I am voting so that when I finish my degree, there’s an actual job waiting for me. My vote is about my future.”
She emphasised that her focus is on job prospects and economic opportunity, placing these above historical narratives and traditional political loyalties.
