The National Price Reduction Initiative, covering 1,740 basic everyday consumer products and school supplies, with an average price reduction of 9.5%, was launched on Monday in an effort to support Greek households’ disposable income.
The initiative “covering basic everyday consumer goods and school supplies ahead of the new school year, provides some relief to households and citizens struggling with the high cost of living,” Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said.
The minister underlined that the initiative covers 1,740 products, including food and basic household goods, with an average price reduction of 9.5%. He said it was the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Development, the Independent Consumer Protection Authority and business organizations.
“It builds on ongoing measures to reinforce the disposable income of Greek households,” Theodorikakos stressed, while highlighting the importance of supporting productive investment that creates “new and better jobs with higher wages, which is the most important factor,” as well as continued market interventions to ensure “fairer competition.”
