More than 1,740 product codes, with an average price reduction of up to 9.5%, have been compiled by the Market Control and Consumer Protection Authority as part of the National Price Reduction Initiative, launched on Monday.More than 100 suppliers, 12 supermarket chains and three toy and school-supplies chains are taking part in the initiative.Specifically, the initiative currently includes:– 875 branded products, with an average price reduction of 6.6%, rising to an average of up to 9% with the contribution of supermarket chains. Overall discounts range from 5% to 44%.– 405 school-supply products, with an average price reduction of 12%.– 360 private-label products, with an average price reduction of 8%.– 100 meat products, with an average price reduction of around 7.5%.Based on information released so far, further additions by businesses and additional price cuts by supermarket chains are expected during the week.Consumers will be able to identify the reductions in two ways: on the supermarket shelf, through special labels on products participating in the National Initiative, and digitally through the PosoKanei platform, giving consumers a clear overview of the products, prices, companies and discounts being applied. The National Price Reduction Initiative will run until the end of December 2026, with participating businesses able to retain the same product codes or introduce new ones.Theodorikakos: 1,740 products with an average price reduction of 9.5%Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said:“The National Price Reduction Initiative, covering basic everyday consumer goods and school supplies ahead of the new school year, provides some relief to households and citizens struggling with the high cost of living. It covers 1,740 products, with an average price reduction of 9.5%, including food and basic household goods. This is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Development, the Independent Consumer Protection Authority and business organisations.“It builds on ongoing measures to strengthen the disposable income of Greek households, including support for productive investment that creates new and better jobs with higher wages, which is the most important factor, as well as continuous market interventions to ensure fair competition.”“We are standing by the citizens with specific actions. And we are not complacent, as the two wars in the wider region have brought enormous uncertainty and a surge in oil prices and inflation,” Theodorikakos added.
