Two people have been arrested in the western Peloponnese for allegedly running a marijuana farm with hundreds of cannabis plants hidden in an olive grove and irrigated from a nearby river, authorities said Monday.
A police statement said the drug crop the two Greek suspects were growing would have had a street value of up to €480,000.
The men were taken into custody Sunday when police doing a sweep for illegal marijuana plantations near the town of Andravida, in the Kyllini area between Patra and Pyrgos, stumbled across 320 cannabis plants growing in rows amid olive trees. Detectives kept a discreet eye on the spot and arrested the two suspects when they arrived to care for the farm.
Police said the suspects allegedly used a petrol-fired pump, concealed under a bridge, to draw water from an adjacent river.
