A marijuana farm ringed with fir trees for natural camouflage and tended by two Albanian gardeners sleeping in tents has been discovered high in the mountains of central Greece, authorities said Thursday.
A police statement said the 4,000-square-meter plantation in the Agrafa mountains near Karpenissi was raided Wednesday, when the two suspects were arrested in the act of planting new saplings.
It said a greenhouse found on the site contained 907 seedlings and seven saplings, as well as the remains of more than 500 older plants that had been harvested and uprooted.
The suspects had allegedly rigged up a two-kilometer long network of plastic pipes to a nearby stream to irrigate the farm, and used solar panels to cover their requirements for electricity.
